The red ferroan Variscite from the iron monarch opencut, put this mine on the world map. First found in the 1970's, then the mid 80's and lastly in 1994. These came from the 1994 discovery which had the best red variscite crystals ever found. It remains a rare mineral to this day. Although not the quality of the best specimans recovered,( and a lot lower priced) these pieces show the distinctive red colour of the variscite. There are some crystals to be found under magnification as well.
