Pyrolusite, Chalcedony, and Quartz, Iron Baron Quarry, Iron Baron, SA
Size 9cm x 6cm
A really unusual speciman, because it has three minerals intergrown together on the one display surface. This is unusual for pyrolusite from these mines , because most times it occured on its own. To the right side of the speciman is the Pyrolusite after Manganite crystals, as a silvery crystalline coating on the matrix. To the left of the speciman is tiny drusy quartz crystals that appear as a black druse of crystals. At the centre top is a botryoidal growth of Chalcedony with the edges stained a pinkish colour by hematite. Bottom has been sawn to rid of waste rock , but saw cut not visible from display side. Quite a showy speciman with the three minerals on it. Really unusual from this occurance. Mine closed, mined out and no longer accessable.
