Goethite, Mt Gunson Mine, Woomera, SA
SKU: 542
Size 11cm x 5cm
During a blast in one of the opencuts at Mt Gunson, a zone with iridescent coatings of goethite (sometimes called Turgite) was exposed. These specimens were only found in that one blast, which was not that big. The next blast had none in it, and soon after the whole lot went under acid as part of a leaching operation. Although the goethite was very bright in patches, specimens were never very large, most 3-4 cm across. A handful of larger pieces were collected by myself, and this was one of them. Good coverage and showy speciman from that original blast.
