Uruguay produces some of the best coloured amethyst in the world. This miniture sized piece is no exception, it is a beautiful purple colour. The crystals are quite clear and transparent, which also makes it hard to photograph, the speciman is way better in person. An unusual feature of this piece is that under magnification it has small perfectly formed clear quartz crystals scattered on the surface of the amethyst crystals, which are quite showy. It also has micro inclusions of hematite or goethite within the amethyst, this is quite common though in amethyst.
