Smithsonite on Pyromorphite, Block 14 Opencut, Broken Hill, NSW
Size 4cm x 3cm
Miniture sized speciman made up of a mass of long slender pale brown pyromorphite crystals. The pyromorphite crystals are a nice speciman on their own, but as an added extra, they are sprinkled with small clear dogtooth smithsonite crystals. Looks great under magnification. Generally these brown pyromorphites were found in the deeper levels of the mine, probably close to the end of mining around 1996. Back of speciman has been cut, but is not visible from the front, and hardly noticible from the back. These specimans seem to be very scarce on the market today. Mine closed and backfilled.
