Siderite, Pioneer Mine, Thackaringa Mines, NSW
SKU: 514
Size 10cm x 5cm
Chunk of dark reddish brown, massive siderite, showing abundant cleavage faces. Siderite of this type was the host rock for the silver mineralisation in a lot of the smaller silver mines outside of broken hill, around thackaringa and silverton. One of the photos shows a patch of galena, with its cubic cleavage, there is also a larger patch of galena on one end which i didn't notice while taking photos. This was the galena in siderite ore that was quite often so rich in silver.
