Pyrolusite, Iron Wizard Opencut, Iron Baron, SA
Size 10cm x 6cm
This did not photograph very well at all, it is a lot nicer and more sparkly in person. I think its a pyrolusite thing, hard to photograph !
A nice cabinet speciman of pyrolusite after manganite crystals, while a lot of the pyrolusite is contacted by the other side of the cavity, there are small cavities present that show well formed blocky crystals of pyrolusite after manganite. Most of the pyrolusite from the middleback range, including the monarch pit is actually a pseudomorph after manganite. There was very little pure manganite at iron monarch and most of this was micro sized . Everything from Iron Baron was after manganite. One of the larger specimans recovered from this find, most were smaller pieces.
Pit closed and backfilled.
