Manganogrunerite, Zinc Corporation Mine, Broken Hill, NSW
SKU: 492
Size 5cm x 3cm
This amphibole mineral was originally referred to as Dannemorite at broken hill, but recent studies have shown it to be mostly manganese rich grunerite. The mineral occurs as a mass of silky brown fibres or needles. There is a little matrix in the piece, but very little. The photos show it to be a bit too silky/shiny, a little overexposed. I'm not sure how much was collected over the years, but you don't see much on the mineral market, maybe because its not overly attractive. In saying that though, the mineral is an important part of broken hill's mineral list.
