Malachite, Paratoo Mine, Yunta, SA

SKU: 545

Size  8cm x 6cm

A cabinet sized speciman of malachite from a mine more renowned for its suite of rare earth minerals.

Quite often in cases like this the common minerals get overlooked, but they still form part of the mineral suite from the locality. Paratoo was originally worked as a copper mine, it was only in the 1990's that the rare earth minerals were identified from here. The grey-blue smears with the malachite are probably Kamphaugite-(Y)  but this has not been confirmed. On the back of the speciman is a small blue smear of decrespignyite. Good example of malachite from here.
