A very good speciman of Lithiophorite mixed with Cryptomelane in stalactitic form. These stalactites came from one isolated cavity exposed during mining in the wall of this open pit mine. The stalactites did not reach much bigger than this. It was exposed in mid 1995 and I had one chance on one afternoon to collect from it, before it was mined out.
Previously thought to be goethite, but a few things didn't quite add up and recent research has shown it to be a mixture of these two minerals. One can not pick the two minerals apart with the naked eye. Pit is mined out and backfilled with waste.
