Kolwezite on Cobaltoan Dolomite, Heterogenite, Musonoi Mine, Kolwezi, Congo
Size 7cm x 3.5cm
Balls of needly, khaki green kolwezite crystals contrast nicely on the bright pink cobalt rich dolomite. There is also a small black patch of botryoidal heterogenite on the top right corner of the speciman. Heterogenite and Kolwezite are both cobalt minerals and the Musonoi mine is the type locality for kolwezite. Very minimal damage to the kolwezite crystals. Kolwezite is a rare mineral and mindat lists only 12 localities worldwide. This speciman looks great under magnification but has enough green to make a good cabinet speciman of this rare species. Hard to come by. Back of speciman has been cut to rid excess waste rock.
