This opencut was developed on the western side of the ranges and exploited a deposit of scree ore. Scree ore is basically fragments/lumps of iron ore that weathered down the slopes of the hills long ago. These deposits of iron ore "rocks" are mostly enclosed in clays. Deposits of this origin very rarely produce anything of speciman quality. This piece of massive hematite ore was collected from this opencut approximately 5 years ago. A piece of ore with a blue iridescant colour on a small part of the front surface. Not much , but the only specimans to come from this pit. 
The last photo shows the clay coating on the outside of the rock.
