Hematite, Iron Monarch Quarry, Iron Knob, SA
Size 6cm x 3cm
Small cabinet speciman of unusual looking hematite crystals. I recall collecting these years ago, they were in one isolated small rock, and two specimans were collected, I remember making comment to Glyn Francis that they looked different from other hematite specimans. Under the microscope the hematite crystals have a brown coating which is probably goethite, and are scattered over a pinkish background, which could be gorceixite, but this has not been tested or verified, so its just hematite at this stage. Despite that, the pink colour contrasts with the hematite nicely. Unusual speciman.
