This is an excellent example of the desert rose variety of gypsum from this classic locality. These gypsum crystals have been dug from 1-2 metres below the surface in an old lake bed.  As they were growing they have enclosed the surrounding red-brown sands, thus giving them the colour. This locality has been closed to collecting for a few years now , so old collections are now the only source.
Getting harder to get now, and more pricey.
