Gordaite on Cerussite, Block 14 Opencut, Broken Hill, NSW
Size 4.5cm x 2.5cm
The speciman is more of a tan brown colour than the photos show. It was a little overexposed. This is a fine miniture speciman of jackstraw cerussite crystals, that have a sprinkling of Gordaite crystals over them. The gordaite gives the cerussite a slight sparkle, as the crystals are tiny, clear flat hexagonal plates, very much like mica or muscovite. I had the gordaite properly tested and identified at the SA museum in adelaide. The crystals are a lot more evident under magnification. A good speciman of cerussite made even better with the rare mineral, gordaite. I have never seen one on the market before.
