Garnet, Staurolite Ridge Garnet Mine, Broken Hill, NSW
SKU: 513
Size 10cm x 6cm
Pinky purple rough shaped garnet crystals scattered through biotite schist, with minor malachite staining. Typical speciman from this little garnet mine that operated years ago. It was mined for the garnet which was used for industrial uses. The orebody also had minor amounts of copper, hence the malachite staining. The garnets are probably the almandine type. More of a speciman for the locality collector.
