Cyrilovite, Iron Monarch Quarry, Iron Knob, SA

SKU: 560

Size 6.5cm x 4.5cm

Cyrilovite is a sodium iron phosphate and was the most abundant of the iron phosphate minerals in the north wall jaspilite. The north wall area was mined in the early days of the opencut.

This is a small cabinet sized speciman with a very rich coverage of yellow cyrilovite. As per normal for this locality, most of the cyrilovite is pseudomorphous after strengite and there are small unaltered clear to white strengite crystals on the speciman as well. As all of these specimans were mined about 50 years ago, they are increasingly difficult to find thesedays. Last photo shows back of speciman. Good rich speciman of an old time mineral.
