Cryptomelane, Iron Monarch Quarry, Iron Knob, SA
Size 7cm x 4cm
Cryptomelane is a potassium manganese oxide mineral, found three times at iron monarch. During the 1990's when the final pit access road was being developed, a open fracture was encountered lined with botryoidal cryptomelane, this piece was collected by Glyn Francis from that fracture. This was the last time this mineral was found at the mine. Earlier specimans came from an area known as
"the slot" which was mined out many years before. Hard to find specimans of this today. The photos were taken with different light sources, and the last photo shows the back of the speciman. The speciman is darker and more black than the photos. Comes with an original label from famous Iron Monarch identity, Glyn Francis, who researched and collected these minerals.
