Chalcocite, Cattlegrid Opencut, Mt Gunson Mine, Woomera, SA
SKU: 546
Size 7cm x 3cm
One of the old timer specimans from Mt. Gunson Mine, mined in the late 70's early 80's before mining stopped in the cattlegrid pit. Showy speciman of black Chalcocite blebs scattered on top of clear drusy quartz crystals, coating a fracture in the sandstone host rock. This was in an old collection and was labelled as such, this piece has not been tested, but it was widely accepted at the time that it was chalcocite. Not many of these old timers around anymore, and getting harder to get. Back has been cut on a saw to get rid of excess matrix.
